The Texas Takeway Program is a joint venture between TPA and Sharps Compliance Inc. to offer safe and affordable drug disposal options to Texas pharmacists.

Up to125,000 tons of of unused medications are improperly disposed of into wastewater each year (Associated Press, 2008). These discarded chemicals are a threat to humans and wildlife when they enter water sources.

Countless more unused medications are routinely deposited in waste containers, where they can pose a serious risk of poisoning or adverse health effects to children, pets and wildlife. Unused and expired medications that are easily accessible at home can be taken by teens or others for improper use.
